3D Dashboard

January 5, 2011

There are a multitude of applications for 3D technology nowadays. Some are obvious, like in movies, TV, and video games.  There are also those that aren’t quite as prevalent as the previous ones mentioned, but are slowly gaining traction such as the use of 3D in mobile and portable devices. And finally, there are applications that we didn’t quite see coming, such as this prototype 3D-enabled car dashboard from Fraunhofer.

Engadget reports that aside from the requisite meters and gauges, it also comes equipped with a GPS locator which displays your current location in full 3D. Better yet, the 3D display on the dashboard is completely glasses-free. This is achieved through sensors that track the position of the viewer’s eyes and make the necessary adjustments to retain the full 3D image. The dashboard’s display can also be customized to show relevant information based on user settings. As of now, it is still in its early prototype stage, but will be making at an appearance this March at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany.
