Google Maps on Android gets a 3D upgrade, but not what you think

The Google Maps Android application will soon make navigating around today’s labyrinthine city streets easier thanks to an impending update. The updates add 3D buildings into the mix, giving users a clearer picture of where they are or the area they want to go to.

Aside from the 3D buildings, the update also includes offline and compass capabilities. The compass will come particularly handy as it tilts the maps’ orientation depending on where the user is facing, thus making navigation easier.
